Tom Coleman
Bio: I’ve been writing artist statements for many years, and for the most part, I find the experience much like a self-message. Recently, when asked to repeat this talk, someone said just tell us what you’re about, what do you believe in? It didn’t take me long to think about this since I talk about it in every workshop I give. First, I believe one must have a true love of the medium. Second, I believe in quality, the highest one can achieve to his or her ability. Third, since I was trained in the classic Japanese tradition I think that pure form, composition, and balance must be learned before one can attempt such things as sculptural or asymmetrical pieces.

Noelle Garcia
Bio: I was born in Reno, Nevada in 1984 and raised on the Reno Sparks Indian Colony. I am an enrolled member of the federally recognized Klamath Tribes. My work is narrative; a form of story telling. I often use decaying family photos for reference. These photos are so precious to me. The feeling of forgetting my family distresses me so I look to the photos for remembrance. In many cases the photos have faded, losing all detail and distinguishing facial features. The process of recreating these images brings me closer to the people or location depicted. Through my painting process I am able to have a relationship with deceased loved ones such as my father, Walt. The figures are ambiguous, with little or no facial features. Through the mannequin like figures, I want to convey a feeling of loss of identity.

Deborah Pittman
Bio: Born and raised in London, England, Deborah is an award winning self-taught artist. Her passion for her current works of art started when she was fortunate to travel and live in the beautiful county side of Northern Japan.  It was during this time, that she was able to observe this unique community of people going about their daily life, that she discovered the history of the majestic hand blown glass fishing float. Used for decades by the humble and hardworking fisherman, they in themselves are a rare form of art. No two are alike. To this art, she added her own form of intriquitely detailed works depicting scenes of Japanese life and history. Each one of these original pieces is done in the finest of oils. Hours are taken on the smallest of detail to bring each one to life. Demand for her work is very high. She has accomplished tow sold-out shows a year, and has painted her works of art for many visiting military and civilian dignitaries. She is at this time, aspiring to bring her talent and works of art to Las Vegas where the beauty of her passionate pieces will truly become a lasting treasure tot hose who will take them home.

Donna Potter
Bio: Growing up in the Las Vegas Valley, local artist and teacher Donna Potter has always been inspired and influenced by the surrounding desert; the colors and textures of the landscape and the brilliant hues of the sunrises and sunsets. She makes pottery. Primarily, pottery that functions in the home and has an artistic flare. She designs her pottery to contain, present, and enhance its content. Most of her work is thrown on the potter’s wheel and altered in some way. Sometimes she adds simple carvings to give pots a delicate texture or alters the form on the wheel to create an organic appearance. The glazes on her pots depict the subtle color and texture she has become attuned to from living her life in the Mojave Desert. Seventeen years ago she was hired to establish the ceramics program at Green Valley High School where she has been ever since and is currently the visual arts department coordinator.

Leslie Rowland
Bio: Leslie Rowland is a celebrated artist living in Las Vegas. She works on both canvas and furniture. Rowland’s abstract work on canvas is both vivid and understated. Bold simplicity mingles with intricate detail. Her works are striking from a distance and captivating up close. She describes her paintings as “an expression of thought and emotion through color and abstract form”. The medium itself is one that she has created. She mixes her own paints combining both traditional techniques and some very non-traditional mediums and techniques. Shimmering, glossy, and vibrant, the multi-layered works achieve an almost three-dimensional depth. They have the appearance of fused glass or enamel on metal, but are in fact mixed media (or epoxy-based paint) on canvas.

Paul Tokarski
Bio: My art is mainly in the abstract. I love taking things apart even now at a somewhat older age am still amazed at what is inside “things”, the beauty within so to speak. My journey into the arts started at a very young age mainly trying to recreate other artist images from books and magazines. I began to study photography after high school and enrolled in a photography school in New York. I have been a professional photographer most of my adult life mainly commercial photography and animation dealing in visual presentations for large corporations. Through the years of this experience I realized how much I enjoyed doing extreme close ups of products showing the audience an in your face of what this item really looks like. As a graphic, extreme close ups are much more interesting visually to look at and this personal glimpse is what I try to unearth in my art today.

Bill Schrock
Bio:
“I am most interested in wheel-thrown forms.  A large part of my studio time is spent at the wheel working on the precision of the forms and overall craftsmanship.  I like the idea that the work may participate in a daily function, but could also be enjoyed solely for  display.
“The processes and materials, along with the endless list of possible forms and decorating techniques, appear to provide a life-long learning environment, that is always inviting.  However, the most satisfying  element is that I share it with my wife, Linda.”
